The Sikkim Government has announced the Sikkim Arts and Literature Festival (SALF), which will be produced in association with Teamwork Arts, the organization behind the renowned yearly Jaipur Literature Festival.

From May 6 to 8, 2023, the event will occur in Yuksam, a medieval town that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Northeast region of India is a veritable gold mine of culture, folklore, art, and complex history. With their creative talents spreading to the oral literature and tradition of these holy regions, the area as a whole and Sikkim, in particular, are seeing an unheard-of flowering of literature, poetry, and art.

The program will honor the local literary scene while addressing significant regional and international issues, such as climate change, wildlife conservation, biodiversity, history, culture, and ethnicity, poetry, architecture, folklore, mental health, writings from the North East, fiction, young adult literature, and more. It will also feature writings from the region's other major literary regions.

"The artistic and literary treasures of Sikkim are deeply ingrained in the cultural matrix of India," stated PS Golay, Chief Minister of Sikkim, during the inauguration. "The first landmark edition of this Festival will open them up for the entire country and beyond to explore and partake in."

Our decision to make Khangchendzonga National Park, one of the most pristine world heritage sites, our main location, is part of our ongoing effort to draw attention to the climate problem and the need for environmental awareness and proactive action.
